Brief Description:  Battery box template

Made a cardboard template of the firewall to work on component placement.

Made a paper template to fit a Shorai LFX18A1-BS12 Lithium IRON battery. The CCA are slightly higher than the Odyssey PC625 (270 vs 265) and weights less (2.2# vs 13.3#). It remains to be seen how effective it will be. I did give the battery a trial run by installing it on my Hyundai Elantra for about a week. It cranked and started ok in the winter cold, but doesn't seem to hold up long with the "hotel" load of the car electronics. The Shorai instructions say to keep a battery maintainer connected if there is a small continous load on the battery and the vehicle is not used daily. If there is no load on the battery, it is supposed to maintain full capacity for several months. Since the master switch will cut off all loads to the battery, there should be no drain when the plane is not in use.

The cutout in the battery box cover is to install the Shorai BMS01 Battery Management System connector when the plane is not in use for extended periods. The BMS01 automatically charges, maintains, and equalizes individual cells in the battery. The charger comes with a 20" pigtail that can be left attached to the battery and the other end located at a convenient place to connect the charger.
